McKenzie College Scholarships

McKenzie College offers several scholarships annually to students who have been accepted into our programs. Applications are received and reviewed by a scholarship committee at McKenzie College, and are held until each scholarship is awarded. All candidates are notified once the scholarship is awarded. Present students and past recipients may apply for any of our scholarships the following year if they decide to further their education at McKenzie College.

The scholarship committee will assess all applications based on portfolio, personal profile letter, and an in-person interview; then select an appropriate candidate annually.

Please note that all awarded scholarship funds are applied to tuition fees only. Before applying for one of McKenzie College scholarships, you must be accepted into one of our programs.

John D. Thompson Memorial Scholarship - $5000

John Thompson was a childhood and lifelong friend of McKenzie College President Dale Ritchie. John was artistic and creative but chose to take a Science Degree at UNB. Upon graduation, he worked for the Department of Natural Resources but did not enjoy the work. He soon completed another four years of study at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Graphic Design, and became an Art Director for a prominent Halifax Ad Agency. John was a delight to be with and found humor in everything around him. The scholarship in his memory is dedicated to help McKenzie College students who have previously started their career or education in another field of study.

Application Eligibility and Requirements

Candidates must...

• wish to pursue an education in a 2nd year Design program or the Photography Media Arts program at McKenzie College.

• have already completed the application process to McKenzie College and have received an acceptance letter.

• have a recognized diploma or degree in an area of study other than the above mentioned or who have studied for at least one year in another field of study at a post-secondary institution.

• complete the scholarship application form correctly, accurately and honestly.

Ruthie M. Reid Memorial Scholarship
for Design - $2500

Ruthie M. Reid was an uniquely creative elementary school teacher in the Moncton area for many years. Known as the "Music lady" she played her autoharp and percussive instruments, and sang with passion to the delight of her audiences. She loved art, even as she became legally blind, having limited vision. She inspired her students to think creatively and encouraged young people to enjoy the journey. She was a poet and published small works and delighted in nature and her family. Living independently into her 90's, she could see the lights of McKenzie College from her apartment and enjoyed all the activity that happened at the school.

David Hawkins Scholarship
for Design - $2500

Considered a pioneer in marketing and advertising in our community, David's career in the field of marketing communications spans over 45 years. David is most prominently known for starting the advertising and public relations firm Hawk Communications Inc., in Sackville, New Brunswick in the mid-70s. Over the next 25 years, it grew into one of Atlantic Canada's largest integrated communications firms. Today, David continues to be highly active in the fields of strategy, marketing communications, branding and public affairs. McKenzie College has dedicated this scholarship to David Hawkins in honor of his contribution to our creative community and his entrepreneurial spirit.

General Scholarship
for Photography Media Arts - $2500

The McKenzie College General Scholarship for Photography Media Arts is designated for aspiring Photographers entering the McKenzie College Photography Media Arts diploma program.

Entrance Scholarship
for all programs - $500

The McKenzie College Entrance Scholarships are designated for those entering any McKenzie College program for the first time.
