Do I need a portfolio before I begin the Visual Arts Foundation program?

Yes, as part of the application process, we require a portfolio of past and recent artwork in order to help establish your current skill set; and to determine your potential for our program. What if I can't draw very well?

This would be one of the main reasons to complete the 1st year Visual Arts Foundation program - to build on your drawing and other visual artistic skills. In turn, this will prepare you to be a better artist or designer when entering your 2nd year of concentration.

Do I need a computer for the Visual Arts Foundation program?

No, the Visual Arts Foundation program is hands-on, practicing the fundamentals of traditional art techniques. A computer doesn’t come into the picture until your 2nd year of concentration.

Am I required to complete the Visual Arts Foundation certificate program before entering other McKenzie College programs?

With exception to the Photography Media Arts program, you are required to successfully complete the 1st year Visual Arts Foundation program before entering your 2nd year of concentration. Exceptions to this requirement are made if the applicant already has a diploma or degree in visual or fine arts from another institution, OR has submitted an exceptional portfolio.

What supplies do I need and where can I get them?

A supply list with estimated costs will be provided as part of your acceptance package. You can purchase these supplies through McKenzie College or on your own at local art supply or retail stores.

Does this program allow for me to work part-time?

Yes. We understand that you may need to work while attending McKenzie College. You will be required to work on class projects after school hours but most work is done in class, freeing up evenings and weekends for you.
